Joining a new guild is scary, especially if you transferred servers.

Boy, is it. Especially when the guild you're coming into is leaps and bounds beyond your previous guild's progression, and your gear sticks out like a sore thumb. This is exactly what I'm going through... and your recruit-oriented suggestions help. A lot. Thank you. <3

@ Whitesides
I explained it in a disclaimer at the end of my post. It's easier to pick one pronoun since "they" would be grammatically incorrect. And to be quite honest, I have no special pride for being a "girl gamer," so I don't feel inclined to celebrate it, as you say. I'm a female, and I play video games. To me, neither have anything to do with one another. I read books more often than I play video games; should I call myself a female lover of books? To you, that sounds silly, and to me, it sounds as silly as labeling myself based on my gender. My hobbies and my gender are not indicative of one another.

oh sorry someone already pointed it out. I find a good one is "they" instead of "he" which is a gender neutral pronoun & easy to type. Most people are not familiar with "zie" or "hir" but those are other gender-neutral pronouns. Or, you can just say "she" because, really, girl gamers rule & deserve to be celebrated.

Why do you keep saying "he"? I would think you would know girls apply to raiding guilds! Why not celebrate that?

Nice bit under "Every sword has two edges." I recently xfered off my long long time server but before I did, I did a few "trial" periods where i just hung around on a lvl 1 toon in a guild. I've never been a fan of actually applying to a guild, but i find the process to be half "applying for a job" and half "being a sports free agent looking to sign."

Only thing I wish out of this new guild is that they'd promote me already(to member, rather than initiate). I gave up my warrior-main for 3 years to main on my resto shaman, and they wanted me to go enh(i had no previous set) so I spent 2 weeks and several K gold to get an entire new set ready for uld! They helped me by running me in 10uld and naxx, but theyre a fun bunch.

I agree wholeheartedly on the issue of the recruit meticulously assessing guilds.

I've wound up with the label of "guild hopper" on my previous server, which eventually caused me to jump ship.

I've been through three guilds as far on the new server, and each and every one of them completely lacks basic structure.

Honestly, I feel better about what I'm doing when I know that someone is nitpicking my every move. An instant /ginvite after an application usually prompts a /gquit about thirty seconds later, if I accept the invitation at all. Too many guilds take recruiting too lightly, and it drives me nuts.

"Why don't you do your research and apply to a guild that you think will meet your criteria in the first place?"

I already did that. Looks like nobody wants Melee.

Sucks for them. I want melee.
